Best Christmas Light Installers in Missoula (2026)

HJ Property Care & Tree Service publishes this guide and lists itself first. Every other company here is a real business that we checked on its own website in November 2026. Nobody paid to be included, and the notes on each company stick to what that company says about itself.

Hiring out your Christmas lights has become a real option in Missoula, and the local choices now differ in ways that matter. Some companies lease you the lights and store them. Some will hang what you own. Some sell a permanent system that never comes down, and one of those is an electrician. So before you compare anything else, decide which of those you want. Here are seven companies working in the Missoula area, what each one says it offers, and who each one suits.

How did we choose these Christmas light installers?

Each company here has a working website of its own that lists holiday light installation and says it serves Missoula. We recorded what it offers, how its lights are supplied, and where it works, as stated on its own site on 2 November 2026. We left out companies that only had a directory or social media listing, national franchises with no Missoula location that we could find, and a couple of template pages with no address, phone number or owner. We did not use ratings or prices.

A disclosure: HJ Property Care & Tree Service publishes this guide and lists itself first. Nobody paid to be included, and the notes on each company stick to what that company says about itself. After first place, the order is not a quality score. Seasonal installers come first, then permanent lighting. This list is part of our Montana Winter Property Guide.

1. HJ Property Care & Tree Service (Florence)

This is our own company. We are adding Christmas light installation and commercial holiday lighting to our winter services for 2026: we put the lights up and come back to take them down, across Missoula, Lolo and Clinton and through the Bitterroot Valley. Rooflines, trees and shrubs, walkways and entrances are part of what we are planning, with clips rather than fasteners. Our crew already works at height and in trees every week, and co-owner Justin Johnson is an ISA Certified Arborist (RM-8889A), so tree lighting is planned with the tree in mind.

Best for: properties that already use us for snow, cleanups or tree work, and anyone who wants lights on trees handled carefully. Worth knowing: this is a new service for us. Packages and pricing are still being finalized, so for now it is an interest list with no obligation, and storage is something we are looking at but have not committed to.

2. Montana Holiday Lighting (Missoula)

Montana Holiday Lighting is locally owned and operated by Kevin Bissett, whom the site describes as a University of Montana alum and former member of the U.S. Forest Service. It covers design, installation, maintenance and takedown and storage, including clip cleanup after snowmelt, with rooflines, mini lights, wreaths and garland for homes, and commercial work listed too. It says it serves Missoula and the Bitterroot Valley. It describes itself as licensed and insured.

Best for: homeowners who want one company for the full cycle, including wreaths and garland. Worth knowing: the site does not say whether lights are supplied or whether you can use your own, so ask.

3. Last Best Holiday Lights (Missoula)

Last Best Holiday Lights is locally owned and offers custom design, installation, maintenance at no extra cost, and takedown with storage in its secure facility. It leases its lights: they stay the company's property, and it does not install customer-owned lights. It uses professional-grade LED C9 and mini lights with non-invasive clips on asphalt shingle, metal and tile roofs. It describes itself as fully insured and safety certified.

Best for: homeowners who want everything handled and have no lights of their own. Worth knowing: it says it typically starts in October, finishes by mid-December and recommends reaching out in late summer or early fall.

4. Mrs. Claus Holiday Lighting (Missoula)

Mrs. Claus Holiday Lighting installs for homes and businesses across western Montana, naming Missoula, Frenchtown, the Bitterroot, Lolo, Bonner and Potomac. It advertises a free design consultation, commercial-grade LED lights, 48-hour free maintenance, removal at no extra cost, free year-round storage and a warranty on product and service. It describes itself as fully licensed and insured.

Best for: homes and businesses that want maintenance response spelled out. Worth knowing: the pages we read do not name an owner or say how long the business has operated.

5. Montana Fresh Panes (Missoula area)

Montana Fresh Panes offers residential and commercial holiday lighting with custom design, installation, maintenance and removal. It says you will not need to purchase lights and that storage options are available. It has a wide service area, from Seeley Lake and Clearwater to Missoula and south through Florence, Stevensville, Hamilton and Darby to Sula. It also does window and gutter cleaning.

Best for: homes outside the usual Missoula area, or owners who would like window and gutter work from the same company. Worth knowing: the holiday page does not state an owner, years in business or insurance, so ask for proof.

6. Trimlight Western Montana (Missoula, permanent)

Trimlight Western Montana is the local dealer of a national permanent lighting brand. It sells LED systems in a channel it says is barely noticeable during the day, controlled from an app and installed and maintained by local, factory-trained technicians, with a lifetime product warranty. It lists Missoula, Frenchtown, Lolo, Florence, Stevensville, Victor, Corvallis, Pinesdale and Hamilton.

Best for: owners who want lights up all year and never want to hang strands again. Worth knowing: it does permanent systems only, and the local page does not name an owner. Read our comparison of permanent and seasonal lights first.

7. Edison Electric (Missoula, permanent)

Edison Electric is a licensed and insured electrical contractor citing more than 20 years of experience. Its holiday offering is permanent, low-profile LED fixtures that stay in place year-round and run from an app. It says spring through fall gives the best working conditions, though winter installs are possible in dry weather.

Best for: owners who want an electrician on the job, for example if a new outlet or circuit is part of the work. Worth knowing: this is an add-on to its electrical business, and it is not a seasonal installer.

Should you choose a seasonal installer or a permanent system?

Start with how you would really use the lights. If you want them for a few weeks in December, and perhaps on a tree or a porch rail as well as the roofline, a seasonal installer is the natural fit. If you would use them through the year and you plan to stay in the house, a permanent system may earn its place. Before you commit to anything fastened to the house, ask how it attaches, whether a permit or new circuit is involved, what the warranty excludes, and what your HOA and city rules say. Our comparison of permanent and seasonal lights goes through each question, including Missoula's outdoor lighting ordinance. For bulb choices on a seasonal display, see LED vs incandescent Christmas lights.

Should you lease lights or own them?

It depends on how long you plan to do it. With a lease, the company supplies, maintains and often stores the lights, so there is nothing for you to keep in the garage, but you stop having them when you stop paying for service. If you own your lights, you keep them and can change installers, though not every installer will hang them, as Last Best's terms show. Ask who replaces failed strands in either case. Our questions to ask a Christmas light installer covers this, along with insurance and attachment methods, and cost factors explains what moves a quote.

Which installers offer storage?

Last Best, Mrs. Claus, Montana Holiday Lighting and Montana Fresh Panes all mention storage. HJ has not committed to it yet. If you store your own, our guide to holiday light takedown and storage shows how to keep strands in working order.

Which ones handle businesses and HOAs?

Mrs. Claus and Montana Fresh Panes name commercial work directly, Montana Holiday Lighting lists it, and Trimlight describes systems for homes and businesses. We are planning for storefronts, office entrances and HOA entrances. Commercial work needs more lead time than a house, and our commercial holiday decor timeline sets out a calendar. If you are in an HOA, read holiday lights and HOA rules first.

When should you book Christmas lights in Missoula?

As early as you can. Last Best says its installs run from October to mid-December and recommends calling in late summer or early fall, and Montana Fresh Panes says spots fill up quickly. Our target window is early to mid November, before the roof and ground freeze, as our guide on when to hang Christmas lights in Montana explains. If you are reading this in November, call now and ask what is left, and consider starting with a single roofline.
