One crew, ten towns
Why we work a valley rather than a radius
HJ Property Care & Tree Service works a defined stretch of western Montana rather than advertising a mileage radius from an office. The reason is practical: the Bitterroot and the Missoula valley share a climate, a growing season and a set of species, so a crew that works them every week knows what a windstorm does to a mature cottonwood here, when the first hard freeze usually beats the last of the leaf drop, and which weeks are left for planting before the ground closes.
That knowledge does not travel. It is why we would rather cover ten towns properly than take work in a county we visit twice a year. Each of the pages below covers one of those towns: what property owners there ask us for most, the conditions that drive it, and the guides worth reading before you book anything.
Every service we offer is available in every town on this page. If you are not sure which page you want, the site map lists every page on the site by topic, and our answers hub answers several hundred property-care questions in one place.
Bitterroot Valley / Ravalli County
Seven of our ten service areas sit in the Bitterroot Valley, running south from Florence to Darby along the river. This is rural and semi-rural property: larger lots, well and ditch irrigation as often as municipal water, mature cottonwoods and ponderosa along the bottoms, and wildlife pressure that shapes what you can plant and what you have to fence. Properties on the west bench sit in the wildland-urban interface, where defensible space is part of ordinary maintenance rather than a special project.
Missoula Area
Missoula, Lolo and Clinton are a different kind of work. Lots are tighter, buildings and utilities are closer to the trees, and the city itself owns the boulevard trees between sidewalk and curb — which changes who may prune them and when a permit is needed. Snow and ice management on commercial sites matters more here than anywhere else we work, and the I-90 and Highway 12 corridors bring their own wind and drifting patterns.
Every service, every town
Local pages by town and service
Each town has its own page for all six core services. These go into the conditions specific to that town rather than repeating the same advice with the name changed.
What we offer everywhere we work
Full-service property care
The same crew, license and insurance cover every town on this page. Nothing is subcontracted out of the valley.
