The people behind HJ Property Care

Adam Hurlbert is the founder and owner of HJ Property Care & Tree Services. He earned a B.S. in Business Management from Dickinson State University in 2012 and soon after built a successful landscape company in Dickinson, North Dakota — completing hundreds of residential and commercial projects, from irrigation installs and retaining walls to complete landscape development for new construction.

In 2018, Adam became the superintendent of an 18-hole golf course, where he managed the entire grounds and crew and oversaw the landscape design and installation for a new clubhouse and patio — outdoor seating, water features, irrigation, and tree and plant selection that complemented the natural surroundings and existing course.

After relocating to Montana, Adam spent four years running a large multi-division landscape, maintenance, and snow-removal company, managing up to 30 employees across multiple crews and large-scope projects as general and operations manager. He founded HJ Property Care to better serve his community and family — building a company centered on relationships, communication, and craftsmanship rather than transactions.

Adam moved to the Bitterroot Valley from North Dakota in 2021 with his wife, Ashley, a Montana native, and they're raising their three children here. Outside of work he's the head coach for North Bitterroot Little League and enjoys golfing, fishing, and everything Western Montana has to offer.

Justin Johnson is a Montana native and Co-Owner of HJ Property Care & Tree Services. Born in Seattle in 1979, he moved to the Bitterroot Valley in 1982 and grew up in Corvallis, Montana. Raised in an agricultural family, he developed a strong work ethic early and learned to take pride in every job.

While still in high school, Justin worked in lawn care, fencing, and property maintenance for a local wildlife refuge — sparking a lifelong passion for improving and caring for properties. Over the years he has owned a handcrafted log-furniture business, worked in residential construction, built and managed his own construction company, and spent nearly a decade in the HVAC industry.

His passion for trees led him into utility forestry, performing line-clearance tree work around high-voltage power lines. Through that work he earned his ISA Certified Arborist credential (RM-8889A) and his Line Clearance Arborist Certification, deepening his expertise in tree care, safety, and proper arboricultural practice.

Today, Justin brings decades of hands-on experience across multiple trades, allowing him to see the bigger picture when caring for a property. Whether he's evaluating a hazardous tree, designing a landscape improvement, or solving a complex property challenge, his goal is always the same — honest recommendations, quality workmanship, and solutions that stand the test of time.

When he's not working, you'll find Justin camping with family and friends, exploring Montana's backcountry, or searching the mountains for unique rocks and minerals.
