Best Irrigation Companies in Missoula (2026)
HJ Property Care & Tree Service publishes this guide and lists itself first. Every other company here is a real Missoula-area business that we checked on its own website in September 2026. Nobody paid to be included, and the notes on each company stick to what that company says about itself.
A sprinkler system in western Montana has two jobs: water efficiently through a hot, dry summer, and survive a winter that will split any pipe left holding water. The companies below all install and service systems around Missoula, but they differ in what else they do, whether they dig trenches or pull pipe, and whether they test backflow devices. Here is how they compare.
How did we choose these irrigation companies?
Each company here serves Missoula, has its own working website, and lists sprinkler installation and service on that site. We recorded what each one says about its services, location, history and warranties, and left out anything we could not confirm, including companies whose sites would not load and lead-generation pages with no real business behind them. We did not use ratings or prices.
Beyond first place, the order groups dedicated sprinkler specialists first and full-service landscape companies after them. It is not a quality ranking.
1. HJ Property Care & Tree Service (Florence)
We design and install sprinkler and drip systems, handle repairs, and run spring start-ups and fall blowouts for homes, HOAs and commercial properties from Missoula through the Bitterroot. Owner Adam Hurlbert has built irrigation systems for more than 15 years, including managing the grounds of an 18-hole golf course. Because we also do landscaping, lawn care and tree work, we can design zones around the plantings rather than around the pipe.
Best for: owners who want irrigation handled by the same crew that maintains the landscape. Worth knowing: we do not offer certified backflow testing or sell parts over the counter. Missoula Water requires irrigation backflow assemblies to be tested every year, and keeps a list of certified testers; Nature's Best (below) is one company that offers it.
2. RainMaker Lawn Sprinklers (Missoula)
RainMaker has served Missoula and western Montana since 1981, making it one of the longest-running sprinkler specialists in the valley. It installs residential and commercial systems, handles repairs and blowouts, works with landscape architects and contractors, and runs a retail store on McDonald Avenue for do-it-yourself parts.
Best for: a dedicated sprinkler specialist, or DIYers who want parts and advice. Worth knowing: irrigation is all it does, so landscaping is a separate hire.
3. Dirtman Sprinklers (Missoula)
Dirtman is family-run and says it has served Missoula for more than 30 years and completed more than 2,500 installations, with the founder still designing each system. It installs trenchless with commercial-grade materials and head-to-head spacing, offers Wi-Fi controllers and rain sensors, and backs installs with a two-year parts and labor warranty. It also does landscape installs, patios, retaining walls and snow removal.
Best for: new construction where you want a warrantied install plus finished landscaping. Worth knowing: no street address is published on the site.
4. Garden City Sprinklers (Missoula)
Garden City Sprinklers has been installing systems since 1992. It uses a vibratory plow, so installs are trenchless, prefers Rain Bird equipment while servicing all major brands, and offers a two-year service warranty alongside a five-year Rain Bird product warranty on installs.
Best for: an established lawn where you want as little digging as possible. Worth knowing: it is a sprinkler-only company.
5. Ibey Sprinkler and Landscaping (Missoula)
Ibey is a family business that has worked in Missoula for about three and a half decades. It installs systems with Wi-Fi controllers and through-wall shut-offs, runs maintenance programs, and also does patios, retaining walls, sod and yard maintenance. It grows trees and perennials on site for a year before selling them, and states it is insured and bonded.
Best for: sprinklers and plants from one family operation. Worth knowing: office hours are weekdays 9 to 3.
6. Sprinkler Maniac (Missoula)
Sprinkler Maniac is an irrigation-only company on Stephens Avenue that designs, installs and services systems and books spring start-ups and fall blowouts online. It says most installs are finished in a single day, and its service area runs from Missoula and Lolo down through Florence, Stevensville, Corvallis and Hamilton.
Best for: Missoula-to-Bitterroot homeowners who want an irrigation specialist with online scheduling. Worth knowing: it publishes Monday to Thursday hours and no years in business.
7. Montana Sprinkler Company (Missoula)
Montana Sprinkler Company says it has more than 20 years of experience in western Montana. It installs systems for new lawns and trenchless systems for existing ones, does drip irrigation and start-up and winterization service, and puts particular emphasis on weather-adjusting smart controllers run from a phone. It also lays sod and builds retaining walls, edging and patios.
Best for: a smart, app-controlled system or a drip conversion. Worth knowing: the site gives no street address or owner name.
8. Nature's Best (Missoula)
Nature's Best runs an irrigation division inside a larger maintenance company that has operated since 1995. It designs, installs and repairs systems, and it offers certified backflow prevention testing, with technicians it says are Rain Bird Academy certified.
Best for: properties that need an annual backflow test done alongside sprinkler service. Worth knowing: sprinklers are one division of a broad maintenance business rather than its whole focus.
9. Allegiant Irrigation & Landscape (Stevensville)
Allegiant owns Missoula Sprinkler Supply and handles new installs, remodels and upgrades, repairs, start-ups and blowouts from its base in Stevensville. It sells parts to DIY customers and publishes unusually detailed guidance on controllers, valves, drip and backflow.
Best for: Bitterroot and south Missoula owners who want parts, advice and service from one place. Worth knowing: it lists no certifications, and it is a drive from central Missoula.
Trenched or trenchless: does it matter?
For a new yard before sod goes down, not much. For an established lawn, it matters a lot. Trenchless installs pull pipe through the soil with a vibratory plow and leave a narrow slit rather than an open trench; trenching opens the lawn and leaves strips that need to be repaired. In rocky Bitterroot ground, some trenching is often unavoidable around boulders and cobble, so ask each company how it handles rock on your site specifically. What should you ask an irrigation company before hiring?
Ask how the system will be zoned: lawn, beds and trees have different water needs and should not share a zone. Ask what controller they install and whether it adjusts to weather. Ask what backflow preventer they will install and where; on Missoula city water, it has to be an approved assembly, tested every year. Ask about the warranty, and what it covers after the first winter.
Most importantly, ask how they winterize. A proper blowout with compressed air, at the right pressure for the pipe, is what keeps the system alive through a Montana winter. When should you book a sprinkler blowout in Missoula?
